EGO Power+ Trimmer Lineup Overview
The EGO Power+ lineup separates into distinct categories based on cutting width and shaft material. The 16-inch models, such as the 16-Inch Carbon Fiber Trimmer Attachment and the standard 16-Inch Carbon Fiber String Trimmer, offer a wider 16-inch cut. These suit users prioritizing coverage and durability over minimal weight. The carbon fiber shafts provide stiffness and longevity for heavy use.
The 15-inch options focus on maneuverability and specific power sources. The 15-Inch Cordless String Trimmer and the 15-Inch Telescopic String Trimmer are lighter, making them ideal for small yards and quick cleanups. The 15-Inch Carbon Fiber String Trimmer and the commercial 15-Inch Carbon Fiber String Trimmer emphasize automatic line feed and backpack battery compatibility. You should choose based on whether you need a wider cut or a lighter, more agile tool.
Where EGO Power+ Fits
The EGO Power+ range spans from lightweight attachments to heavy commercial units. You can choose a 15-inch or 16-inch cutting width. Most models use carbon fiber shafts for durability. Battery options include 2.5 Ah and 4.0 Ah packs. You also have access to dedicated power head attachments. The lineup covers small yards and professional jobs. However, the list lacks gas-powered options or brush cutter attachments. You must own compatible EGO batteries to use these tools. The brand focuses on electric versatility rather than fuel independence.
How to choose the right one
-
Check cutting width
You should match the cutting width to your yard size. A 16-inch cut, found on the STA1600 attachment and the B0CTL1XM6K model, covers more ground per pass. This is useful for larger lawns where efficiency matters. The 15-inch options, like the ST1502SA and ST1510T, offer a narrower profile. This narrower width is easier to maneuver around tight obstacles. Choose 16 inches for speed. Choose 15 inches for precision in cluttered areas.
-
Verify power head compatibility
If you already own an EGO power head, check if you need a standalone tool or an attachment. The STA1600 is an attachment. It requires the PH1420 power head to operate. It does not include a motor or battery. If you lack a power head, you must buy a complete unit like the ST1502SA. Buying the wrong type wastes money. Ensure your existing gear matches the product category before purchasing.
-
Assess battery capacity needs
Battery capacity determines runtime. The ST1502SA uses a 2.5 Ah battery. This is sufficient for small yards and quick cleanups. Larger tasks may require frequent swaps. The B0CTL1XM6K supports 4.0 Ah batteries. This provides longer runtimes for heavier work. If you have existing EGO batteries, check their amp-hour rating. A 4.0 Ah pack lasts longer than a 2.5 Ah pack. Select the capacity that matches your typical job length.
-
Consider shaft durability
Shaft material affects longevity and weight. Carbon fiber shafts, seen in the STA1600, B0CTL1XM6K, and ST1521S, offer high durability. They resist bending and breaking under stress. The STX3800 also uses a carbon fiber shaft for commercial use. This is ideal for heavy-duty trimming. If you do not see carbon fiber mentioned, the shaft may be standard steel. Choose carbon fiber if you expect rough use or need long-term reliability in tough conditions.
-
Evaluate weight and size
Weight impacts comfort during extended use. The STA1600 attachment weighs only 3.4 pounds. It is very light but requires a power head. The STX3800 commercial model weighs 12.1 pounds. This is significantly heavier due to its robust build. The ST1502SA and ST1510T both weigh 7.4 pounds. This is a moderate weight for handheld use. Compare the total weight if you plan to trim for long periods. Lighter tools reduce fatigue.
