EGO Power+ 15-Inch Telescopic String Trimmer Alternatives: 6 Similar Picks Compared

How the alternatives compare

EGO Power+ 15-Inch Cordless String Trimmer

The EGO Power+ 15-Inch Cordless String Trimmer shares the same 15-inch cutting width and 7.4-pound weight as the original telescopic model. It uses the same 56V platform, so your existing batteries fit both tools. The main difference is the shaft design. This version has a fixed shaft length of 71.7 inches, whereas the original adjusts via telescoping aluminum. You lose the ability to customize the handle height for your specific stature. However, this model often includes the battery and charger in the box, while the original is tool-only. If you prefer a simpler, non-adjustable shaft and want a complete kit out of the box, this is the better choice. It sacrifices ergonomic customization for convenience and potentially lower initial setup effort.

Kobalt 40V Max 15-Inch Straight Shaft Trimmer

The Kobalt 40V Max 15-Inch Straight Shaft Trimmer differs significantly in voltage and shaft type. It operates on a 40V system, which is lower than the original’s 56V rating. You cannot use your EGO batteries with this tool. The shaft is fixed at 38 inches, lacking the telescopic adjustment of the original. This makes it shorter and less versatile for varying user heights. The cutting width remains 15 inches, matching the original’s swath. It is designed as a tool-only unit, requiring you to purchase a compatible Kobalt battery separately. This pick suits users who already own Kobalt 40V batteries and prefer a straight shaft for precision edging. It gives up the higher voltage power and adjustable reach of the EGO model for platform compatibility within the Kobalt ecosystem.

Makita 40V max Brushless 15" String Trimmer

The Makita 40V max Brushless 15" String Trimmer matches the original in cutting width and motor type. Both use brushless motors for efficiency and durability. However, the Makita runs on a 40V system, not the 56V voltage of the EGO original. This lower voltage may affect peak power under heavy loads. The shaft is fixed, unlike the telescopic design of the original, limiting height adjustment. It is sold as a tool-only unit, similar to the original. The Makita model weighs 7.09 pounds, slightly lighter than the 7.4-pound EGO. This alternative is best for users already invested in the Makita 40V battery platform. It offers a comparable 15-inch cut and durable motor but sacrifices the higher voltage output and adjustable shaft length found in the EGO Power+ model.

EGO Power+ 16-Inch Carbon Fiber Trimmer Attachment

The EGO Power+ 16-Inch Carbon Fiber Trimmer Attachment is not a standalone tool but an attachment for existing EGO multi-head systems. It increases the cutting width from 15 inches to 16 inches, providing a wider swath. The shaft is made of carbon fiber, which is lighter than the aluminum shaft of the original, weighing only 3.4 pounds. It lacks the telescopic adjustment feature, having a fixed length. This item requires a compatible EGO power head, which the original includes in its motor housing. It is ideal for users who already own an EGO multi-tool and want a wider cut with less weight. You give up the integrated motor and telescopic shaft of the original for a lighter, wider-cutting attachment that depends on a separate power unit.

Greenworks 60V 13-Inch Trimmer and Blower Combo

The Greenworks 60V 13-Inch Trimmer and Blower Combo offers a different voltage and cutting width. It uses a 60V system, which is higher than the original’s 56V, but the cutting swath is narrower at 13 inches compared to the 15-inch original. This is a combo kit that includes a blower, adding versatility but also weight. The total weight is 22 pounds, significantly heavier than the 7.4-pound original. It includes a 4.0 Ah battery, whereas the original is tool-only. The shaft is fixed, lacking the telescopic adjustment of the EGO model. This pick suits users who want to trim and blow debris in one session. You trade the wider 15-inch cut, lighter weight, and adjustable shaft of the original for a higher voltage system and multi-tool functionality.

WORX 40V 15-Inch Trimmer and Blower Combo

The WORX 40V 15-Inch Trimmer and Blower Combo matches the original’s 15-inch cutting width but uses a 40V system. This lower voltage may result in less power than the 56V EGO model. It is a dual-purpose tool that includes a blower, adding complexity and weight. The total weight is 20 pounds, much heavier than the 7.4-pound original. The shaft is carbon fiber, which is durable but fixed, lacking the telescopic adjustment of the EGO. It is sold as a kit, likely including batteries, while the original is tool-only. This alternative is best for users who prioritize trimming and blowing in a single device. You give up the lighter weight, adjustable shaft, and higher voltage of the original for the convenience of a two-in-one tool and platform compatibility within the WORX 40V ecosystem.
