Looking Beyond the EGO Power+ STX3800 15-Inch 56-Volt Lithium-ion? 6 Alternatives Worth a Look

How these models differ from the STX3800

EGO Power+ 15-Inch Cordless String Trimmer

The EGO ST1502SA keeps the same 15-inch cutting width and 56-volt platform but shifts focus to weight and charging speed. It weighs just 7.4 pounds, significantly lighter than the STX3800’s 12.1 pounds. This makes it easier to handle for smaller yards or users who prioritize portability over heavy-duty durability. It uses a 2.5 Ah battery, which may require more frequent swaps than larger options. The shaft is not carbon fiber, so it lacks the lifetime warranty and extreme rigidity of the commercial model. If you already own EGO batteries and want a lighter tool for quick jobs, this is a practical alternative to the heavier commercial trimmer.

Greenworks 60V 16-Inch Brushless String Trimmer

The Greenworks 60V model offers a wider 16-inch cutting swath, giving you an extra inch of clearance per pass compared to the 15-inch STX3800. It runs on a 60-volt system, which differs from the 56-volt EGO platform, so it requires Greenworks batteries. The brushless motor provides efficient power, and the attachment-capable shaft allows you to switch between tools, adding versatility that the dedicated STX3800 lacks. It is heavier and bulkier, designed for users building a broader 60V ecosystem rather than those committed to EGO. If you need a wider cut and multi-tool flexibility, this model expands your capabilities beyond the single-purpose commercial trimmer.

WORX 40V 15-Inch Trimmer and Blower Combo

The WORX 40V kit combines a trimmer and blower into one package, offering dual functionality that the single-purpose STX3800 does not provide. It runs on a lower 40-volt system, which means less raw power for thick weeds compared to the 56-volt EGO. The 15-inch cutting width matches the STX3800, but the overall kit weighs 20 pounds, making it much heavier to carry. It features a carbon fiber shaft, similar to the EGO, but the lower voltage limits its suitability for commercial-grade tasks. This option suits users who want a trimmer and blower combo for residential use and do not need the maximum power or light weight of the dedicated commercial trimmer.

EGO Power+ 16-Inch Telescopic String Trimmer

The EGO ST1620T increases the cutting width to 16 inches while maintaining the 56-volt EGO battery compatibility. It features a telescopic carbon fiber shaft, offering adjustability that the fixed-length STX3800 lacks. The key difference is the line feed system: it uses an automatic Powerload or Line IQ feed instead of the manual bump feed. This saves time and effort by eliminating the need to bump the head against the ground. It weighs 7.67 pounds, much lighter than the 12.1-pound STX3800. If you prefer automatic line feeding and a wider cut without the weight of the commercial model, this telescopic version is a user-friendly alternative for residential and light commercial work.

EGO Power+ 16-Inch Carbon Fiber String Trimmer

The EGO 16-Inch 56V Trimmer offers a wider 16-inch cutting swath and automatic line feeding, removing the manual bump feed required by the STX3800. It shares the same 56-volt platform and carbon fiber shaft, ensuring compatibility with existing EGO batteries and similar durability. The automatic feed provides convenience and consistent line length, which is ideal for precise edging and detailed work. It is lighter and more maneuverable than the heavy commercial STX3800. If you value automatic line feeding and a wider cut while staying within the EGO ecosystem, this model offers a more convenient experience for homeowners who do not need the rugged, manual-feed design of the commercial series.

Greenworks 80V 16-Inch Brushless String Trimmer

The Greenworks 80V model provides higher voltage than the 56-volt STX3800, delivering extra power for cutting through thick, tough weeds. It features a 16-inch cutting width, offering a wider path than the 15-inch EGO. The brushless motor ensures efficient performance, but the unit weighs 16.6 pounds, significantly heavier than the STX3800’s 12.1 pounds. It runs on the Greenworks 80V platform, so it requires different batteries than the EGO system. This trimmer suits users who prioritize maximum power for heavy vegetation over lightweight portability. If you need extra voltage for dense weeds and are building a new 80V ecosystem, this is a powerful alternative to the standard 56-volt commercial trimmer.
