Comparing EGO String Trimmer Specs
Cutting width
The EGO Power+ 16-Inch Carbon Fiber Trimmer Attachment offers a 16-inch cutting swath. This wider coverage allows you to clear more grass and weeds with each pass. The EGO Power+ 15-Inch Telescopic String Trimmer provides a 15-inch cutting swath. While slightly narrower, it still covers a substantial area. The one-inch difference may matter for large, open lawns where efficiency is key. You might prefer the wider cut for speed, or the standard width for precision around tight obstacles. Both models use professional-grade, dual-line spiral-twist 0.095-inch trimmer line for consistent performance.
Shaft construction
Build quality differs significantly between these two tools. The STA1600 features a lightweight and durable carbon fiber shaft. Carbon fiber is known for being strong yet light, reducing fatigue during extended use. It also comes with a lifetime warranty on the shaft. In contrast, the ST1510T uses a telescopic aluminum shaft. Aluminum is sturdy and allows you to adjust the length for comfort. However, it is heavier than carbon fiber. The telescopic design adds versatility for different user heights, while the carbon fiber option prioritizes weight reduction and durability without adjustment capabilities.
Weight
Weight impacts how easy a tool is to handle, especially overhead or for long periods. The EGO Power+ 16-Inch Carbon Fiber Trimmer Attachment weighs just 3.4 pounds. This light weight makes it much easier to maneuver without straining your arms. The EGO Power+ 15-Inch Telescopic String Trimmer weighs 7.4 pounds. It is more than double the weight of the attachment. The heavier weight may cause more fatigue over time. If you plan to use the tool for extended sessions, the lighter carbon fiber option offers a clear comfort advantage.
Line feed system
Both tools feature EGO’s POWERLOAD technology for quick line reloading, but the implementation varies. The STA1600 attachment uses POWERLOAD with the PH1420 power head, allowing you to push a button and feed line in seconds. With the PH1400, it uses Rapid Reload, which requires lining up arrows and twisting. The ST1510T uses POWERLOAD for button-fed reloading but also includes a bump-feed line advance. This bump-feed option lets you tap the head on the ground to extend line quickly. The ST1510T offers more flexibility with two feed methods, while the STA1600 relies on the power head for its primary feed mechanism.
Motor type
The motor type affects runtime and durability. The EGO Power+ 15-Inch Telescopic String Trimmer is equipped with a high-efficiency brushless motor. This motor type delivers long runtimes, low vibration, and extended motor life. The data for the EGO Power+ 16-Inch Carbon Fiber Trimmer Attachment does not list a motor type, as it is an attachment requiring a separate power head. The power head you choose will determine the motor specs. However, the dedicated trimmer’s brushless motor is explicitly designed for optimized performance and efficiency in a standalone unit.
Choose the right EGO trimmer for you
Multi-tool owners with existing power heads
You already own an EGO multi-head system. This attachment connects directly to your PH1400 or PH1420 power heads. It features a lightweight carbon fiber shaft and a 16-inch cutting swath. The POWERLOAD system lets you reload line quickly. It is an ideal addition to your existing toolkit without buying a separate unit.
Users wanting an adjustable standalone trimmer
This model stands alone with a telescopic aluminum shaft. You can adjust the length for comfort. It includes a high-efficiency brushless motor for long runtime. The 15-inch cutting swath handles weeds and grass. It is a complete, ready-to-use solution that does not require a separate power head attachment.
Those prioritizing lightweight handling and durability
Weight matters when trimming for long periods. This attachment weighs only 3.4 pounds. The carbon fiber shaft is durable and light. It offers a 16-inch cutting width. The IPX4 rating protects against weather. If you want minimal fatigue and a wider cut, this attachment is the practical choice for your needs.
